Small Cell Lung Cancer Prognosis

The lung cancer is divided into two critical types. These are non little cell lung cancer with minor cell lung cancer. The non small cell lung cancer is further divided into many types according to the cell structure beneath the microscope.

There are three key types of non small cell lung cancer – squamous cell carcinoma; large cell carcinoma with adenocarcinoma.

Survival rates have increased for non-small cell lung cancer since of advances in combination radiation plus chemotherapy exposure. By exposure, 14% of patients can have a 5 years survival speed, a high achievement in lung cancer terms. Squamous cell carcinoma is plus known as epidermoid carcinoma. Squamous cells look require thin flat cells beneath the microscope. Great cell carcinoma can initiate from distinct types of the large cells.

Minor cell lung carcinoma is treated primarily by chemotherapy with radiation, as surgery has no quantifiable involve on survival. When the earlier the cancer is diagnosed, lung cancer survival rates are higher. However, additional than two-thirds of lung cancers are diagnosed at a late stage with so survival rates for these patients are lower.

Adenocarcinoma begins from the mucus secreting cells of the alveoli.

The more rare subtypes of non small cell lung carcinoma are carcinoid, pleomorphic and salivary gland carcinoma.

The most standard risk issue of lung cancer is smoking persistent smoking increases the risk year by year. Cessation of smoking decreases the risk but risk is never completely gone. Other risk factors contain exposure to air pollution, radiation therapy, asbestos, radon, chromium, arsenic, soot and tar.

The main signs plus symptoms include persistent cough, complicated breathing, hoarseness of voice, loss of appetite, loss of weight and tiredness. The tests which should be performed for diagnosis with staging of non minor cell lung cancer include chest radiological investigation, CT scanning, PET scanning for detection of malignant cells, sputum cytology, fine needle aspiration biopsy, bronchoscopy, thoracoscopy with thoracocentesis.

The features which influence the prognosis of the infection include general condition of the patient, group of the lung cancer with severity of the symptoms.
